I live in a new build house. The room I use for my cinema / music seems to have a problem whereby the majority of low frequency sound will not leave the end of the room where the main speakers reside.
If I stand at the end of the room there's plenty bass - too much perhaps - but in the middle of the room where the sofa is there's none.
It doesn't matter what speakers I use - I have a pair of floor standard for music. There are no rear-firing ports at all on them but I still don't get the bass.
For surround I initially placed the sub in the corner at the end of the room but again even for that most of the bass stays at one end of the room. To get round it for surfing I've had to place the sub at the side in the middle of the room - essentially next to the sofa which isn't ideal.
The room has laminate flooring. One wall is interrupted by a double window, the opposite by the door. The room is roughly 16' x 13'.
