They appear every summer and swirl around ten centimetres above my conservatory/diningroom floor, in a circle. They don't appear to settle, nor do they bite. They don't seem to pause either, simply going round and round and round and round ....
They're quite small - don't do any harm. Just are there, like clockwork, every year. We've put down laminated wooden flooring last year - I thought this would be the end of them. It wasn't. The floors get washed and polished regularly, there's no food left out, and no soft furnishing. We live about a kilometre from a lake and we back onto stables. Wooden furniture with leather chair cushions. A bookcase, a sideboard. That's it.
Oh yes, there's a fruit bowl with fruit - but I've never seen them sitting on the fruit.
We usually spray them with insect spray but this year I'm trying to protect my new floors.
Any ideas? Uk question, by the way.
I don't think they're midges. They don't bite - just go round and round ....
Thunder flies? Okay - they're around all the time though, not just before s torm. How do I get rid of them???
