Any ideas what might be causing my dog's strange behaviour? He is a 9 year old Labrador cross and in the last 3 weeks he has developed an aversion to going into our kitchen. At first we thought he might have a problem with his nails or paws as we have laminate flooring in the kitchen (it has been there for years) but we took him to the vet and his paws are fine. He gets as far as the kitchen door and just sits there and will not enter on his own. We have to coax him in but he won't stay there for long and scarpers as soon as possible. He did the same thing when we took him to my Mum's house when we went away for a few days, she has different flooring to us so it can't be that. It is beginning to get worse, his food and water is in the kitchen just by the door and he either stands at the doorway with his head poked round the door to drink or eat or stands as close to the doorway as possible so he doesn't have to enter the kitchen. The vet said he may have slipped over on the floor and this scared him so he would associate the floor with slipping over but we have even put down mats and he still won't try it alone. Any ideas?
