i recently moved out of a property. new tenants moved in 2 weeks later. i then received a letter to say that i was being charged for damage as when we put new laminate flooring down we didnt put the edging strips down. I didnt think that you HAD to put edging down, plus the laminate made an improvement to the property as the carpets that were there before were very old. We have also been charged for the removal of a unit which we left. The unit is now being used by the new tenants! We also got charged for damage to the patio door, apparantly the door hinges have broken?! we no way did this damage! Can the landlord charge us for all of these things? None of the things have been done as the landlord has asked for the money upfront as he cant afford to do it without the money. He has said he will take us to court if we dont pay. Should i let this go to court?
thanks
i did have permission to do the flooring and i also asked if he wanted the carpets back down as i did still have them. He said no and that he was very happy with the flooring and the way we had kept the house. The inventory didnt mention the patio doors (which we signed) there was no check out inventory done as he said he would check once the keys were given in. (big mistake, but we trusted him!)
