My 6-8mth old kitten has always been litter trained and has had no accidents since getting him in Sept. He's been using his litter kwitter and is on stage two, doing really well. In the last few days, however - when having easy access to his tray and outdoors, he's chosen to defacate (ones and twos!!) on my (ultra expensive!) rug, the laminate floor, right by the front door. Always downstairs - not in the bedroom where some cats do spray when they feel comfortable. This is not all the time, probably twice a day - other times he uses his tray. Is it time for him to be neutered?
The tray should not be a problem as he is currently half way through toilet training (check out the litter kwitter on youtube) which, although sounding like a crazy idea, has saved me loads in litter bills and smells! There was always the plan to get him neutered, I just didn't know when the right age is. Although his offspring would be very pretty, I would rather have clean home furnishings! Thanks guys :)
Oh, I also may have ommitted/given the wrong info... He's not vertically spraying, just defacating.
